THE ARTIST
Art Statement
All art work has a meaning to the artist..for me, it is a love and fascination with the natural world .
The first few years of my life were spent in a beautiful countryside..far away from the nearest city.
My earliest memories are of plants and trees, animals and birds.
I was deeply influenced by my father who loved his roses, gardens and goldfish more than the company of people.
My art work is both respectful and playful around these themes.
I was fortunate to have found a career in the Interior Plantscape industry, and for 30 years worked with corporate clients to enhance their interior spaces with exotic plants and flowers. I specialized in public spaces, corporate buildings, atriums, and botanical gardens..and a few private residences.
I began my formal art education at the University of Houston's visual art program and then transferred to Houston's Museum of Fine Arts Glassell School where I graduated from their program in sculpture and clay.
My work with perfecting a gold glaze for my ceramic work led me to using Gold Leaf and mixed media.
I have studied the history and material and spiritual influence of gold and incorporate it in my work.
I see a parallel of the value of the natural world and the symbology of the sacred..It is evident in all cultures. In every religion paradise is depicted as a garden.
Many of the ideas I have been interested in, have led me to photographing gardens, and to Sume-i Ink painting; also dedicated to the love of nature and animals. I have studied with several masters of this medium for many years now.
